SHIP provides information, counseling and assistance to Medicare Beneficiaries in Nevada involving a statewide network of volunteers.
SHIP Volunteers offer FREE one-on-one assistance and counseling with respect to many problems seniors encounter regarding Medicare, supplemental health insurance and long-term care options.
The Nevada Medicare SHIP Program provides services in the following areas:
Information on eligibility and benefits for Medicare programs including enrollment in a Part D, prescription drug benefit plan, general Medicare coverage and limitations. To enroll in Medicare contact the Social Security Administration.
Assistance with claims, requests for reconsiderations, and appeal processes for Medicare and Supplemental Insurance (Medigap). To view the current Medigap comparison guide, click here.
Volunteer Counselors can help determine health insurance needs and provide unbiased information to assist the consumer in making informed decisions about their health and long-term care insurances.
Outreach information to seniors and their families through meetings, seminars, classes, health fairs, senior fairs and the media.
Referrals to other state and community services. Anyone needing help with Medicaid eligibility should contact the Nevada State Division of Welfare and Supportive Services.
Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Benefit
Your next chance to sign up for a Medicare Part D plan is October 15 - December 7. If you sign up, your prescription drug coverage will begin the following January 1. (Certain beneficiaries are eligible to enroll in a plan before November, call SHIP for more information.)
