Vulnerable Adult Fatality Review Committee (VAFRC)

The Vulnerable Adult Fatality Review Committee (VAFRC) was established by the Nevada Legislature in 2023 to address deaths of vulnerable adults that may have been caused by abuse or neglect.

The VAFRC reviews each referral received to identify gaps in existing systems and determine what could have been handled differently. Based on these findings, the committee provides recommendations to law enforcement, state agencies, service providers, victim advocates, and the public. These recommendations aim to improve services and prevent future fatalities.

All meetings of the VAFRC are confidential to ensure privacy and encourage open discussions.

The VAFRC also produces regular reports to share its findings:

  • Biennial data reports: Every two years, the committee publishes general data on abuse cases online.

  • Annual Reports: Each year, the committee releases a comprehensive report on the reviewed deaths. This report includes case summaries, prevention strategies, and proposals for improved laws or regulations. These are shared with lawmakers.

Referrals can be submitted to the committee by family members, law enforcement, and ADSD staff through the online form provided below.
