Capacity Building Opportunities

The Nevada Developmental Disability Services, a program within Aging & Disability Services Division (ADSD), is pleased to announce multiple initiatives to improve state and provider capacity to serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and complex behavior support needs.
A range of technical assistance and training activities are available through December 2026 for both provider organizations and individual staff seeking to improve knowledge, skills and capacity. These programs are being delivered at no cost to all types of providers and their teams: home and community-based service staff (including everyone from direct support professionals to executive directors), mental health providers, behavioral support providers, physical and mental health clinicians, and other professionals who care for and/or assist people with I/DD (and their families) to live healthy and happy lives.
Financial resources will be available for provider organizations who choose to support their staff to participate. ADSD funds will help cover non-billable staff time, travel expenses, and other non-duplicative costs.

Information on each capacity building opportunity:

  • Capacity Building Institute (CBI)
The CBI is a nine-month intensive in-person training opportunity for individual provider, clinical, state, and systems staff involved in supporting Nevadans with I/DD and complex behavioral support needs to learn and problem-solve together. The first (Fall 2025) cohort is currently underway. Applications for the second cohort will open early 2026, with sessions starting in April 2026. Informational webinars for cohort two will be announced soon.

  • NADD Certification & Accreditation
ADSD is partnering with the National Association for the Dually Diagnosed (NADD) to provide technical assistance and training on working with people with I/DD who have co-occurring mental health conditions, supporting providers and state staff to achieve NADD certification and accreditation.
  • Peer Provider Technical Assistance
ADSD is partnering with Benchmark Human Services to deliver hands-on coaching, consultation, technical assistance and training to a small group of selected Nevada providers who are working with people with I/DD and very intensive support needs. Providers will be contacted directly by ADSD to be invited to participate.
  • Juvenile Justice Learning Collaborative
    • In partnership with ADSD, the Division of Child and Family Services, and local Juvenile Justice staff, this collaborative will facilitate peer-to-peer learning among agency and provider staff. A collaborative steering committee participated in the planning and kicked off the initiative in Fall 2025.

  • I/DD Training Library
    • ADSD is partnering with Health Management Associates (HMA) to develop an on-line training library for state staff, HCBS providers, behavioral health providers, child welfare and family support programs, justice system partners, families, advocates and others. Trainings will be focused on supporting people with I/DD and complex needs.
